Avant-pop master — and notorious recluse – Kate Bush is set to return with Director’s Cut, a new full-length of reworked catalog songs from 1989’s The Sensual World and 1993′s The Red Shoes. Due out May 16 on Bush’s newly formed Fish People Records, the 11 songs mark her first set of studio work since 2005’s Aeriel. So it’s not new songs per se, but we’ll take it.
In a video posted on Bush’s website, we learn that “Deeper Understanding” (from The Sensual World) is the first single, and hits digital retailers tomorrow (Apr. 5). The song drifts over six minutes, and finds Bush playing around with auto-tune and a heaping of slow bass grooves.
A handful of tricked-out versions of Director’s Cut will be available, most notable being a three-CD set that pairs Director’s with the original versions of The Sensual World and The Red Shoes.
Bush fans can also revel in that fact that she’s currently working on new material. But you know how that goes.
