First Take: Little Scream

There’s no genre loose enough to let Little Scream‘s Laurel Sprengelmeyer comfortably rest, except maybe “eclectic indie” — if such a thing exists. Earlier this year, she first caught our attention with The Golden Record, a debut rich with ethereal vocals, orchestral layering and recent Canadian rock traditions. It’s this last part that isn’t too surprising; The Montreal-via-Iowa songwriter tapped members of Arcade Fire, Stars and the National‘s Aaron Dessner to round out the swelling sounds. In this First Take, Hive’s new video series spotlighting emerging artists, Sprengelmeyer performs “The Lamb” while discussing her willingness to play around with genres and experiment with arrangements, and should the time call for it, run the show solo with mini ’83 Casio.
