Beastie Boys, Spike Jonze Delight With Stop-Motion

With not one, but two 2011 Woodie of the Year nominations secured for his work with Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem, Spike Jonze’s music videos have been killer recently. Which is exactly the direction he’s gone with his newest release, an episode of The Continuingly Ill Adventures of the Beastie Boys, the music video for “Don’t Play No Games That I Can’t Win” (Feat. Santigold), from the ‘Boys latest, Hot Sauce Committee Vol. 2. The video is a high-stakes, Robot Chicken-esque encounter between the Beastie Boys and a group of evil agents that only a cast of plastic action figures could properly personify. You can safely expect that flamethrowers, zombies, sharks and a Yeti capable of flying a helicopter are all fair game. Clever subtitles drive the narrative and Jonze intentionally keeps the the strings, sticks and hands that guide these bad-ass Ken dolls very visible. Our only complaint: More stop-motion Santigold!

You can watch the full, 10+ minute version of the video at Beastieboys.com.
