Led by Israeli-born singer Luke Top, L.A. Afropop-funk collective Fool’s Gold emerged in 2009 with a mix of African rhythms, multilingual vocals and remix-ready pop gems. “Street Clothes,” the lead single from the group’s upcoming sophomore album Leave No Track, ups the ante, sounding like polyrhythmic hippie funk about to hit the club; a vibrant, exuberant track that recalls David Bowie‘s Let’s Dance as envisioned by a Tel Aviv DJ. The song’s blend of New Wave-y synth delays, electric guitar and a chaotic No Wave sax solo builds on the group’s debut album without alienating longtime fans. “There’s no holding back,” sings Top repeatedly. We’ll have to agree.
Leave No Trace, Fool’s Gold’s sophomore album, is out August 16 on IAMSOUND.
