Largely unknown in the U.S. at this point, the Irrepressibles land stateside this month with the proper release of their art-popcentric debut, Mirror Mirror. Fronted by performance artist/multi-media composer/musician Jamie McDermott, the Irrepressibles‘ line-up swells to a cast of 10, but crafts songs that favor a more dramatic, like the look of of Montreal meets the quiver of Antony and the Johnsons. Which means they’re perfect for the remix treatment. The lead single, “In This Shirt,” gets expanded into a dreamy ten-minute number by Norwegian dance masters Röyskopp, where the end result is far from ecstasy, as we’re told.
“There is an infinity of electronic sadness at the end of the Röyskopp remix,” McDermott tells Hive. “It is like I am becoming frozen into an electronic version of myself - helped by the other sympathetic voices to scatter into the landscape.”
Mirror Mirror is out digitally August 9 with a special edition release due October 25.
