Veteran indie singer Mirah returns with “Low Self Control,” an orchestral dance-pop collaboration with French singer/rapper Tender Forever (Melanie Valera) that’ll please those Robyn fans who are feeling a bit needy for some new beats. As Mirah tells Hive, August is an appropriate release time for this light, bouncy club-pop tune. “I was riding my bike around San Francisco and stopped next to a car that was playing a hot summer jam,” the singer recalls. “It made me want to write something that would sound that good with summertime windows all rolled down. Lyrically, I was trying to express a true life story of no-self control, low self esteem and unabating, inappropriate and distracting lust.”
Longtime friend and collaborator Tender Forever raps in her native tongue, though for Mirah, the message and delivery overshadow the potential language barrier. “It doesn’t matters if you can’t understand French,” the singer says. “Her delivery is so powerful that you can feel it as universal molecular communication and don’t need to rely on word translation.”
“Low Self Control” is out Tuesday, August 16 at digital retailers.
