There aren’t two musicians just like Gary Clark Jr. The Austin, Texas-based bluesman can drop virtuosic solos like Stevie Ray Vaughan within the context of moody, dirty jams that wouldn’t sound out of place if they came from the Black Keys.

The title track of his debut EP, “Bright Lights” has a stomping, fuzzy aesthetic that features thumping drums and a braggadocio-heavy refrain that insists “You’re gonna know my name by the end of the night.” After each chorus, as he’s twisting distortion-laden solo runs out of his guitar, it’s hard not to think that the man’s got a point. It’s blues by nature, but driven by confidence.
