Folkies know Icelandic musician Sindri Már Sigfússon for his band Seabear, but of the last few years, he’s been branching out into blending those folk territories into electronic worlds, performing under the name Sin Fang. And it’s no surprise that he’s released cover version of Fleetwood Mac‘s “Landslide” and Simon & Garfunkel‘s “The Only Living Boy in New York.” The guy’s got an ear for writing a guitar-pop tune as evident on this new version of “Slowlights” (which originally appears on his recent album, Summer Echoes). Here, Sigfússon plays with a multitude of rhythmic tempo changes and vocals jumps, while being mindful of constraint; at it’s heart, the sound’s reminiscent of those moments when Death Cab for Cutie weren’t trying so hard, where indie-pop doesn’t feel bloated, even though you can hear a lot of textures woven throughout — and from the way he describes it, a quite simple process. “For the song it’s like a single edit thing,” Sigfússon tells Hive. “I added some vocals and synths and made up a new chapter. It’s actually pretty close to how we play it live right now.”

Sin Fang’s currently on tour in Europe, as well as, working on the follow up to Summer Echoes with Jonsi & Alex‘s Alex Somers, due sometime in early 2012.
