For a guy whose main gig is fronting Radiohead, 2011′s seen an awful lot of Thom Yorke in various DJing roles. First he popped up at Flying Lotus‘s Low End Theory party this past March in Los Angeles. Then he teamed with longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich for a pre-Glastonbury set that treated listeners to a hip-hop heavy playlist featuring Mad Lib, Public Enemy and Major Lazer. That party lasted “‘Til dawn,” according to Yorke.
This week he’s returned with a mix crafted for British DJ Mary Anne Hobbs, a 25 minute set that features a piece of a new Yorke tune called “Twist,” as well as redensely remixed Radiohead tracks, a Four Tet remix of Tinariwen and a quick shout out to Fela Kuti. For the Radiohead obsessed, the new tune is easy subject matter — but for those mix enthusiasts who can’t be at the last minute gig or Glastonbury tent, it’s a fantastic insight from a guy who’s coming into his own at the decks.
