The King and T.I. Return on New Track

Biz Markie and Lil Jon may be hip-hop’s court jester and town crier, respectively, but T.I. has his jewel-encrusted scepter aimed at the throne with “Hear Ye, Hear Ye,” the second track since his release from prison last month. Premiered today by venerable New York DJ Funkmaster Flex on Hot 97, the track opens with magisterial, “I’m back!” horns reminiscent of Big Daddy Kane‘s “Young, Gifted and Black.” Skateboard P makes sure to shout out his own liqueur Qream before the King of the South proclaims himself the “young Marlon Brando” — we’ll assume he means badass, leather jacket-wearing The Wild One Brando and not incoherent, babbling Island of Dr. Moreau Brando. If the title didn’t clue you in, prepare for talks of crowns, dethroning, castles and “opinionated peons” on the hook-free track. This is a well-worn metaphor for T.I. He recently told Rolling Stone that he’s thinking of naming his next album Kill The King, and his clothing line is already called A King Of Oneself. At this point, T.I.‘s stage show should include a moat and crossbows. [Listen to "Hear Ye, Hear Ye" here.]
