Los Angeles dubstep poobah Skrillex has already landed on national magazine covers and helped transport the UK genre to American audiences. Now, the Dubstepchild has recently signed San Francisco’s the M Machine to his OWSLA label and is set to release the group’s “Glow,” a warm, mellow New Wave-tinged track that’s more Sunday morning than Saturday night.
As the psychedelic art above indicates, the M Machine’s identity isn’t clear. But this is what we do know: Released as a maxi-single alongside the more anthemic, dubstep-y “Promise Me a Rose Garden,” “Glow” hews more toward the traditional verse/chorus song structure of pop than its dance music brethren. As the line “I feel young again” rides over gentle synths and a mid-tempo beat from 1983, the track is more suited for lying on your couch than booming club speakers. Its lush vocals will attract those who typically eschew hard, grinding club music, while Skrillex continues his dance floor domination one signee at a time.
“Promise Me a Rose/Glow” is out now on OWSLA.
