2011’s been a banner year for left-of-center producers like Clams Casino and Jamie XX making their mark in the rap world. Add Providence, Rhode Island’s araabMUZIK to the list. Over the last several years araabMUZIK (born Abraham Orellana) has honed his chops on the beat battle circuit, using an MPC drum machine to improvise his dark, stuttery rhythms. It’s a sound that’s become a fixture in hip-hop this year, as artists turned to electronic music for new inspiration. You should expect to see araabMUZIK’s name on tracks from Eminem, 50 Cent and Jadakiss in 2012. Watch here as araabMUZIK demonstrates the lightning-fast fingers necessary to create two of his beats, in this clip for In My Room, an intimate video series presented by Hive and Yours Truly.
