Yukon Blonde’s “Choices” might come off the Canadian band’s latest EP, Fire/Water, but like recent success stories Blitzen Trapper and Dawes, it has that sound of a track that’s been played on your favorite bar’s jukebox for years.
Perhaps the lush, well-worn guitar aesthetic comes thanks to the time the group poured into the song. Singer and guitarist Jeff Innes tells Hive that he wrote the song while the band was mixing it’s self-titled album, but it took almost a year for him to revisit it. “I don’t know where ‘inspiration’ comes from,” he says, “but I do know that I felt like there was something missing on the old record and I basically wanted to remedy that after the fact.” Wise move, we’re thinking.
