It seems like just yesterday A$AP Rocky was the talk of Harlem. Wait. It probably was just yesterday. But currently burning up the blogs and YouTube is Azealia Banks, another Harlemite with the gift of quick gab. We first met Banks on the Diplo-esque “212,” where she drops the “C” word nonchalantly throughout, amidst an undeniably catchy beat (see also: the undeniably catchy video). Her latest song, released via Tumblr last night, is slightly friendlier, meaning a bit more Missy than Nicki. Over Lone’s techno “Pineapple Crush,” Banks is candid about her willingness to date men for their money and she often refers to “liquorice,” which is some play off the word “licorice.” But as far as we can tell, there’s not much talk about booze, Twizzlers or drinking booze through a straw made out of Twizzlers at all.
Banks is currently recording her proper debut in the UK with producer Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence + the Machine) which we anticipate to come out in 2012.
