I’m celebrating the year’s end by sharing some of my favorite clips from Weird Vibes, our new indie music video show on Hive. The show launched this past August but there are already a handful of classic indie moments from the show’s short history. I miss 2011 already! What buzzbands does the future hold? Only 2012 will tell! Weird Vibes‘ “Best Music Videos of 2011″ episode goes up tomorrow, December 22, but until then, here are my five favorite clips from our inaugural year. – Shirley Braha, Producer/Creator, Weird Vibes.
1. Chillwave Isn’t Even a Real Thing
In this clip taken from the inaugural episode of Weird Vibes entitled “Its Not Easy Being a Buzzband,” our nation’s greatest musicians unite to rally against limiting labels like “Chillwave” “Beach Rock” “Girl Group Garage Pop Rock” and “Calypso Something or Other!” Members of Best Coast, Tanlines, Beach Fossils, Small Black, and Franke & The Outs finally take a stand and let their collective voices be heard!

2. Vibing at P4k Fest with Twin Shadow
At Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago this past summer, I spotted Twin Shadow’s George Lewis Jr. hanging in the VIP area, and he was nice to let me bother him for a significant length of time, answering whatever dumb questions I could think of like “what’s your favorite snack in the tour van?” (a: gummy bears) and “are you happy?” (a: 25% of the time). Even more entertaining was his “Meet the Fans” adventure. George Lewis Jr., you are so effing chill.

4. Real Estate, VIP Correspondent
Backstage at Pitchfork Fest, Matt Mondanile of Real Estate / Ducktails did the world a great service by letting everyone know what it’s like to be VIP as he talks to his vip breathren, including his bandmates, Dent May, Pitchfork’s Ryan Schreiber, Kurt Vile and more.
Matt: What do you think of the VIP area?
Julianna Barwick: The VIP area? Where is that?
Matt: We’re in it right now
Julianna Barwick? Oh is this it?… It’s great.

5. A DFA Family Affair
Q: What’s better than Holy Ghost? A: Holy Ghost and their dads and Nancy from LCD Soundsystem and her mom eating hot dogs. If I owned Katz’s Deli, I would take a freeze frame from this episode and blow it up and hang it right by the entrance, but I don’t.
