Handpicked by Apple as their iPhone app of 2011, Instagram is a photosharing and filtering app that has attracted a wide, almost obsessive following among the 15 million users they’ve wrangled during their 14-month existence. By applying one of many retro filters, and adding a tilt-shift blur for those feeling extra-artsy, it’s practically impossible to take a bad picture. Instagrammers have been known to upload pictures of practically anything, including their kids, oddball collections, journeys through airports and of course food. So. Much. Food. It’s a brilliantly simple way to add a touch of nostalgia to the immediate present, creating almost an emotional addiction. Here are five musicians/Instagram fans that have shared the inner-workings of their life on 2011′s most hip social network.
1. Soulja Boy
Soulja might not have “cranked” out any chart topping singles as of late, but if you’re looking for any clues on whether he can still afford to live an outlandishly lush lifestyle, look no further than his Instagram profile. Expensive varsity jackets, enormous diamond gold bracelets and a simmering bromance between him and @MrSeanKingston are just a few recurring themes filling up this young millionaire’s photo stream.

2. A-Trak
The captain of Fool’s Gold and a world class DJ to boot, A-Trak exudes cool and wit on his Instagram page. Most recently, find snapshots of what he got for Christmas, behind the scenes before his MSG opening set for Swedish House Mafia, and the travels of the official A-Trak puppet.

3. Evidence
Beware: Evidence is not your typical instagrammer. The Venice, CA rapper is also the Director of Photography of indie rap outfit Rhymesayers according to his Twitter biography. Like other hardcore iPhone photogs, Evidence runs most of his pictures through a myriad of photo-editing apps to create surreal, almost fake looking contrasts. Good fodder for aspiring iPhone photography addicts.

4. Dave Nada
Just like any fun DJ set, why not throw some moombahton in the mix? The EDM sub-genres creator and half of Nadastrom is a prolific and easygoing Instagrammer. Whether backstage at Skrillex’s Mothership tour or at home eating his mom’s empanadas, Nada is always keeping an eye out for a meme-worthy snapshot.

5. The National
Compared to the likes of Soulja Boy or Waka Flocka, the Instagram stream from these indie rock stars has a humble, homey feel to it. Catch the boys on a hike in the woods, rehearsing, taking naps, and being all around darlings across the country. Finally, some insta-integrity.
