As most music aficionados know, love songs work best when they’re not over-thought — which is exactly the approach Afie Jurvanen, who records and performs under the name Bahamas, took when composing his newest single, “Caught Me Thinking.”

“I didn’t labor too long over the lyrics,” he tells Hive. “The melody just seemed to suggest what I should be saying.”

The song comes from Bahamas’ sophomore set Barchords, which he hopes comes off with more of a retro dance vibe in the vein of Chubby Checker or Chuck Berry. He wrote “Caught Me Thinking” while playing piano on tour with Feist, where that main riff you hear couldn’t escape him. “I’m a fan of short pop songs,” he tells Hive. No need to over-think that explanation either.
