A group of conscious rappers who don’t take themselves too seriously, BBU are a four-man hip-hop crew who build community over feel good beats. “The Hood,” the first single from their upcoming mixtape Bell Hooks, is a perfect example. “’Chi Don’t Dance,’ our first big single, was a perfect example of a conscious song that was fun enough to cross over to folks that for the most part only listen to mainstream music, we hope ‘The Hood’ will do the same,” explains Epic, one of the three emcees in the group.
Joining BBU on “The Hood” is hometown hero GLC, who adds his own twist to popular hood vernacular. “GLC is Chicago hip-hop history, so we feel blessed to be on a track with him,” Jasson Perez adds. “On the music level he adds community and movement to the track in a dope way.” Shouting out Twista and Kanye, GLC closes the Chicago circle while effectively co-signing one of the Midwest’s most spirited underground acts.
