Clamoring for new sounds from Arcade Fire? You’re in luck, as the Canadian orchestral-rock unleashed “Abraham’s Daughter” today, one of two contributions they’ve made to the forthcoming Hunger Games soundtrack. But hold up: if you’re expecting one of those soaring, anthemic Springsteen-esque jams, you won’t find it here. As Entertainment Weekly reveals, the song is scheduled to play during the film’s closing credits and as you’ll hear, is sung by Régine Chassagne, full-time Arcade Fire multi-instrumentalist, part-time lead singer. “Our whole approach was to get into the world and try to create something that serves the story and the film,” Arcade Fire’s Win Butler told EW. ”There’s something in the story of Abraham and Isaac that I think resonates with the themes in the film, like sacrificing children. So we made a weird, apocryphal, alternate-universe version of that, where it’s as if Abraham had a daughter — kind of a metaphor for Katniss.” Metaphors aside, it’s new Arcade Fire!
