JD Twitch’s Transcendental White Light

White Light Mix of the Week

JD Twitch, half of the London-based DJ duo Optimo (Espacio), mans the decks for the most recent installment of the White Light mix series. In his own description of the mix, JD alludes to the “transcendental effect” of late-night drives, where “the conversation has ceased and everyone in the car is lost in their own thoughts, slightly spaced out.” This set is driven by what he calls “pure” trance; the steady kicks never overpower the delayed synths, songs are blended gently over extended sections, and spirituous spoken word tidbits are embedded along the way. Highlights include the dramatic, bouncy riff of Etienne Jaumet’s “Satori,” the echoing progression of Truffle Club’s “Gone Blue,” and the cinematic rise in Time Warp’s “Moodswings” that is both reflective and cheesy in a great ’80s way. The next time you need something to space out to in the passenger seat as you stuff your jacket between your head and the window, thank JD for this delicate piece of work.
