When the Alabama Shakes recorded their First Take session for us last fall, we knew we’d stumbled onto something special. Since then, they’ve made a big splash at SXSW, secured an opening slot this spring on Jack White’s solo tour, and next week they’ll release their excellent full-length debut, Boys & Girls (pre-order it through iTunes). It’s a fresh mix of Southern rock and ’60s R&B, where you can hear traces of Otis, Aretha and Janis mixed in with Shakes singer Brittany Howard’s fierce howl. And to celebrate the release of Boys & Girls, Hive is streaming their entire concert from New York’s Webster Hall on Tuesday, April 10th as a part of our Live in NYC series. The show starts promptly at 9:00pm EST, and if you haven’t seen the band live, now’s the time to get on board. It’ll a powerful experience, we promise.
