Chicago’s Willis Earl Beal is making a run for lo-fi album of 2012 with his XL debut Acousmatic Sorcery. For the uninitiated, check out this new video for “Monotony.” The clip culls footage from what appears to be a building security camera fixated on a guy wearing ski-goggles, selling newspapers. Like Beal’s music, it’s hard to place this video in a specific time frame, but from the looks of various fashion cues and automobiles, we’d guess it’s from the late ’90s or early ’00s. Regardless, it hones in on the rough-edged found-footage aesthetic of Sorcery, and it takes the song title literally.
Acousmatic Sorcery is out now via XL.
