Wintersleep, “Resuscitate” — Song Premiere

With the longer days slowly building towards summer, a rejuvenating afternoon anthem becomes as necessary as a morning cup of coffee. The Canadian band Wintersleep offers an antidote in “Resuscitate,” the jolting single from its forthcoming album Hello Hum. “Resuscitate” is a pulsing dose of indie rock, with bright pops of guitar and a glistening synth line. Crafted with a heavy hand of percussion and, likely, a love of Interpol, the song is surprisingly cheery for the typically melancholic five-piece. But singer Paul Murphy’s vocals are carefree enough to passively enjoy, and the song’s warmth is buried in verse to eschew any corniness. Their endgame is to uplift, though, and Murphy says, “The lyrics float around the idea that love, in all of its shapes and forms, can revive one’s spirit, or ‘resuscitate’ it if you will.”

Hello Hum is out June 12 on Roll Call/ILG.
