Rejoice! You can now set your Saturday night pregame tunes to auto-play. Last weekend Diplo became the proud owner of a shiny new BCC Radio One slot, suitably titled Diplo and Friends. Like the name implies, each week will feature sets from either the Mad Decent skipper or other handpicked DJs and producers. The two-hour show has a start time of 1:00AM in the UK, meaning Americans can listen in live from 8PM to 10PM EST in preparation for a night out.

For the inaugural show, Diplo tapped Montreal producer Lunice for the first hour and the “heart and soul” of Mad Decent Paul Devro for the second. Lunice keeps it hip-hop centric, blending some of his own ethereal trap-house productions with the likes of A$AP Rocky, Ludacris and Waka Flocka. Introducing Lunice at the beginning of the mix, Diplo describes his set as “bridging that world between Brainfeeder, Flying Lotus, [and] the underground scene with Maybach Music, Rick Ross and Wiz Khalifa, and he’s doing it in his own style.” It’s a succinct but accurate description. Lunice ping-pongs back and forth between mainstream street anthems and hazy bass bangers, for example, dropping Phantom’s “Gothic,” between Yak Ballz and 2Chainz without flinching.

After some kind words from Diplo, Paul Devro mans the decks for the second hour, diving into some mid-tempo moombahton from Miami-based producer JWLS before kicking the BPM back up to 128. Devro sticks to the globally influenced dance music that has become Mad Decent’s bread and butter; tracks with sparse, tropically tinged percussion, pitched up vocal samples and Dutch-house synths make up a good chunk of his set, with some reggae and Baltimore club thrown in for good measure. This Saturday, look out for a two-hour set from Diplo himself, with upcoming sessions featuring Dillon Francis, Flosstradamus, Brodinski and more.
