A$AP Rocky’s musical tryst with Lana Del Rey might have been postponed for now, but the first teaser for the Harlem rapper’s solo major label debut has arrived in the form of the slinky, Hit-Boy-crafted “Goldie.” Premiering on Hot97 this afternoon, the song has Rocky flipping between slurred-down and natural-speed raps, and engaging in his usual boasts about cash, clothes and equal parts weeds and women (this time you can “call him Billy Gates/ Got a crib in every state”).
Before the weekend, A$AP prepped his fans to “… get ready for that jiggy shit” via his Twitter account. “Goldie” isn’t quite the full-on euphoric ode to the wanton excesses of the jig life — like most of the A$AP vault it veers towards the eerie, at least sonically — but the production snaps and the beat sounds primed to be freestyled over by a gaggle of MCs through the summer months. The song also continues 2012′s under-acknowledged theme of horse rap, with Rocky vowing to “party like a cowboy,” although we’re not entirely convinced that “red bottomed loafers just to compliment the mink” is any sort of sensible rodeo attire. A$AP Rocky’s debut album LongLiveA$AP will be out this summer.
