Major Lazer, the dancehall-inspired duo that is Diplo and Switch, just unloaded their first single since their 2011 behemoth “Original Don.” Unlike the majority of their dancefloor-friendly production, “Get Free” is atypically quiet and calming, with cooing vocals from Dirty Projectors‘ Amber Coffman. On the sun-tinged, downtempo reggae song, Coffman moans melodramatically over a crescendoing synth, a steady bass kick and delicately placed string section. “Get Free” is better suited for earbuds on the beach than a proper pool party, but it’s a satisfying listen nonetheless.
