Fiona Apple’s return into the collective music lovers’ conscience continues today with the  singer’s newly released track “Every Single Night.” As the proper introduction to her upcoming record, The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do, the song’s surprisingly slow and pensive, with Apple’s trademark piano front-and-center. It doesn’t carry the peppy bravado of her earlier singles, like “Fast as You Can” or “Get Him Back.” Instead, Apple slowly moans about butterflies in her brain and schizophrenic conversations she has with herself. This is what a Fiona Apple lullaby sounds like.
