Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo and M. Ward shared a bill this last Friday (May 11) at New York City’s Webster Hall, a billing that would excite anyone remotely fond of guitars. Both are spending the year plugging their new solo albums (Ranaldo, Between the Times & the Tides, Ward, A Wasteland Companion) and in this case, created a concert atmosphere that blended Ranaldo’s trademark mixture of loud, abrasive effects-driven guitars with Ward’s more twanged hush.
