This week Best Coast, an indie duo and leaders of the cat-pop crossover movement, released The Only Place, their second album of breezy bummer-summer rock. Early reports out of critical circles suggest that frontwoman Bethany Cosentino hasn’t lost her (fresh) step since the days of Crazy For You. Nor has she stopped talking about her cat Snacks, who is now making cameos in Urban Outfitters promotional videos for her new clothing line. While human ears are responding positively to this new batch of songs, we couldn’t help wondering about the feline opinion. It only makes sense: cats can hear octaves at higher and lower ranges than humans, so they’re uniquely able to hear all the Jon-Brion-produced subtleties of Best Coast’s latest. Plus they’re a lot cuter than music critics. Hive surveyed 13 different felines, who weighed in one by one. Here are their unfiltered thoughts after hearing The Only Place.
