Blonds and brunettes have dominated rock music’s love affair with celebrating girls’ hair color in song, but for Boston’s High Diner their new single “Pretty Redhead” pays homage to the gingers. Well, one in particular. “I wrote this two years ago, when I first left home for college in Santa Cruz,” explains High Diner’s John Murphy. “I met this redhead girl and instantly became infatuated with her. She had a boyfriend already, but I didn’t care. Soon it became somewhat of a “classic” around the dorms where we both lived. Oftentimes you could hear our circle of friends belting out the lyrics to the song late at night.” Whether or not Murphy got the gal remains unknown, but we do know this organ-tinged pop song shows that High Diner have a knack for writing a catchy indie-pop tune.

Look for High Diner’s debut album out this fall.
