Making the decision to move out of your parents’ place is surely a tough one — rent, bills, and the potential rodent problems in a crappy apartment are all legit concerns. But for New York’s Henry Schiller, who records as Hemlock Shaw, that time in his life inspired this song “The Delicious Week,” off his avant-folk album Tidal Tracks. “The album was something I decided I wanted to work on right after graduating from college,” Schiller tells Hive. “It was the first song I wrote for the album that actually ended up making it onto the final version, and I think of all the songs on the album it’s the most straightforward. I recorded three different guitar parts to tape, all completely rhythmic, and then layered it with nine vocal tracks. Each of the vocals has a different effect on it which gives the song some space.” Which is exactly what you want when you’re leaving home.
