Edmonton electro outfit Shout Out Out Out Out have always had a knack for backing melancholic lyrics with a dancefloor beat and their latest effort “Now That I’ve Given Up Hope, I Feel Much Better,” from their upcoming album Spanish Moss and Total Loss, is no exception. “My lyrics are probably kind of a bummer,” Nik Kozub told Hive. “Since the beginning of our band, I’ve felt more comfortable writing about loss, trust issues, feeling disconnected, being in debt, and longing for a better life than just ‘partying on the dancefloor.’” But with a chirpy synth line and clapping percussion, the only hardship possibly felt is trying to decipher the lyrics from the robotic vocals.
Spanish Moss and Total Loss arrives July 17 on Normals Welcome Records.
