Political cabaret collective the Citizen Band formed in 2004 as a response to the results of the 2004 U.S. Presidential election, in hopes of educating people about the nation’s flaws while entertaining them. Eight years later, the group channels their frustration into satire with “I Swung the Election,” from their debut full-length Grab a Root and Growl. Led by Cardigans front woman Nina Persson, the catchy song has a Prohibition-era vibe with jazz keys and guitar beneath Persson’s syrupy vocals. Even while singing of flawed politics, Persson keeps the tone upbeat.
