Saint Motel has drummed up a lot of attention in Los Angeles for its themed fêtes (a zombie prom, rock’n’roll circuses, and a “kaleidoscopic mind explosion,” to name a few), but when it comes to their music, the Cali four piece is gimmick-free. Delivering straightforward jangle pop with boppy rhythms, massive harmonies, and lingering hooks, Saint Motel has a classic teen-rock appeal. They’ve got the songwriting chops to transcend being another balmy indie rock band, though: Just look to “Honest Feedback,” a cut from their debut full-length Voyeur, that doesn’t feel any smaller when it’s sliced down from three minutes to one.
