The young and sophisticated world of Frank Ocean is now officially upon us. After appearing on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night sporting his now signature headband and performing a gorgeous rendition of “Bad Religion” with the Roots, the Odd Future warbler digitally dropped his debut album Channel Orange a week ahead of its intended release date. Early highlights on the 17-song long project, which includes production by Pharrell Williams and Sa-Ra’s Om’Mas, include the previously performed “Super Rich Kids” now featuring a guest verse from Earl Sweatshirt, the nine-minute-long strip-club tale “Pyramids,” and Andre 3000 wondering “What am I, Hemingway?” on “Pink Matter.” If Ocean’s talent as a singer and songwriter were ever in doubt, the album smashes home his promise with a swanky charm.
