Maynard James Keenan Opens Up About Tapeworm

There aren’t many working musicians working harder than Maynard James Keenan. The Tool/A Perfect Circle frontman is also busy with his solo-project-with-friends, Puscifer, and his side career as one of the premiere winemakers in Arizona. In the latest episode of the Hivecast with Matt Pinfield, Keenan and Matt talk wine and Puscifer — and finally opens up about what happened with the long-anticipated, never-materialized Tapeworm supergroup that he joined with Trent Reznor. “Those days, when we were getting together, everybody involved with the project wasn’t quite ready to do it,” he tells Pinfield. “With my huge ego coming to the table, and everybody else’s ego coming to the table, that really polluted the project. We just weren’t ready. Now that things are going, Puscifer is kind of becoming what I thought that should have been.”

Still, don’t worry about the Tapeworm project interfering with Keenan and Reznor’s friendship — leave it to a hairless cat that Keenan talked Reznor into taking for that. “[He] was a super problem cat, just kind of a bully,” Keenan says. Listen to the rest of the podcast to hear more about Puscifer, wine, living in a haunted Arizona town, and some of Keenan’s other famous friends. [Download & subscribe to the Hivecast via iTunes.]
