While swinging by Benji B’s Radio One show, J Rocc hijacked a 10-minute segment to premiere earthy instrumentals from fellow beat conspirators Karriem Reggins, Quakers, Tall Black Guy and more. The highlight, easily, was a quick snippet from Flying Lotus’ much-anticipated single with Erykah Badu, from his October-slated album Until the Quiet Comes. In the nearly minute-long preview, flat bongo percussion and schizophrenic hi-hats make way for jazzy guitar scales and Badu’s cooing, motherly vocals. J Rocc cuts the track before Erykah’s harmonies fully flourish, and given FlyLo’s distaste for song structure, it would be foolish to assume what the rest of the song sounds like. What we do know is this: If Flying Lotus and Eykah have anywhere near the on-screen charm and chemistry shared by him and our recent Weird Vibes host Aurelia, our expectations will remain high.
