Matt Nordstrom and Dave Nada of Nadastrom.
For all the springy and innovative musicians around the world, only a handful can be specifically pinned down as an inventor of an entire genre. Dave Nada not only discovered moombahton, but has remained its leading tastemaker through curating Moombahton Massive openers from across the country and co-founding the Diabluma Sound imprint. Luckily, he found a moment while traveling between his back-to-back Moombahton Massives in Washington D.C. and Miami to send a list of his five favorite songs of the summer. Be warned: These tracks are usually reserved for peak moments on the dancefloor, Dutch-house swing, wobble synths and all. At that point in the evening, there’s little better than the selections below.
1. JWLS, “Bashin’” (Nadastrom’s More Bounce Edit)
Moombahton banger of the year! Matt and I added more Latin flare and 808s to revamp the already huge original. “Bashin’” has been an undeniable party record this summer, not just in the clubs, but at festivals too.
2. Craze, “SELEKTA”
I’ve seen mad inappropriate things go down on the dance floor whenever this record is played. It’s just hella sexy and funky — got’ damn that swing! This is my moombahton summer anthem.
3. TNGHT, “Higher Ground”
This is hands down the toughest record of the summer. I rank this up there with Munchi’s “Firepower” remix and Juelz’s “Santana’s Town.” Makes me wanna grind, slam and do hair whips.
4. Flosstradamus, “Underground Anthem”
Remember that summer when Flosstradamus conquered the world? Yeah, you gotta be a certified party foul to deny their power and energy, bringing a whole new sound to the underground and beyond. This is the anthem.
5. Gent & Jawns, “Holler”
This is sonically the biggest and baddest moombahton record to drop this summer. Hips don’t lie, this murders every time I play it. Plus the official video is amazing!
