On the face of it, it seems like the title of Future Twin’s “Summer Song” gives away its mission statement: An ode to San Francisco Indian summers, recorded for their summer series where they drop a single a month. But “Summer Song” is also about the chance the season provides for reflection and self-transformation — the latter of which, happens to be the concept behind the band’s name. In the bouncy jam, filled with steely guitars and sharp synths, the trio of Jean Jeanie, Antonio Roman-Alcalá, and Dan DK lament the loss of a former bandmates and old friend. “The opening line is about a person’s ability to see how others are different from themselves,” vocalist Jean Jeanie says, “[And] catch onto other people’s idiosyncrasies; get to know them better. Essentially it’s a reminder to keep an open mind.”
