The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have unabashedly recalled their ‘90s alt-rock influences on their self-titled debut and sophomore album Belong, and will soon commemorate a couple of them on a 7’’ of covers. Vocalist and Keyboardist Peggy Wang told Hive this past weekend at FYF Festival, “We have a 7” coming out that’s just cover songs, which we’ve never really done before. One is a Magnetic Fields song — they’re like my favorite band in high school. The other song is by a band called East River Pipe.” Singer and guitarist Kip Berman added, “East River Pipe is a band that I really like.” The concept for the 7” was posed by a Taiwanese label — who wrote to the band after they played a show in Taiwan, where Wang has family — but Wang and Berman said that the 7” will be released in the U.S. via Slumberland. We’ll be hearing more original material from Pains soon too, as the band revealed a new song at FYF called “Until the Sun Explodes.”
