KingPen Slim and Jim Jones Wave to Haters on “Can’t Stop Me”

Last week, we tipped KingPen Slim as one of D.C.’s best underground rappers and we’ve managed to get our ears on his new track, “Can’t Stop Me,” featuring Dipset veteran-turned-reality TV personality Jim Jones. The single comes from Slim’s forthcoming album, Triple Beam Dreams, and its layered lush strings quickly establishes an easy tone for the rappers to ponder their lives. As Slim explains, the music evokes nostalgic feelings, which led to the song’s autobiographical approach. “The whole concept was me waving to my haters like ‘ha, look, you can’t stop me!’” Slim tells Hive. “I’ve been through too much to stop now.” Such is the tone of his album, Slim says. On it, listeners should expect an introspective tone: “I feel like it’ll be one of those projects you can come back to for years to come.” Aging gracefully is never a bad thing.

Triple Beam Dreams is out October 9.
