Tame Impala isn’t interested in present-day pop music. “There’s nothing on the radio that I’ve heard and thought I really liked,” frontman Kevin Parker told Hive recently. “When we’re in the back of a taxi and we hear something on the radio that’s real, real Top 40 pop today, it’s mostly all pretty terrible in my opinion.” Keeping true to that statement, the band goes full retro for its new video for “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards.” The layered animation resembles late ’70s Saturday morning cartoons, with Parker’s vocal pitch sounding eerily similar to John Lennon’s. In other words, it’s nostalgia for the eyes and ears.
