Are you ready for some Doris? Last night, Earl Sweatshirt announced that as the title for his feverishly-anticipated debut album. As with most things Odd Future-related, the revelation came with little in the way of explanation, although the news was accompanied by a video for his recent track “Chum.” Pairing the song’s melancholy piano loop and sparse drums with black and white footage, Earl’s in a sort of stasis, as the world slowly revolves around him while he relays his introspective lyrics about early family life and the trials of media attention. It’s a far cry from Odd Future’s early shock schtick and more indication that Doris might be the record to herald in a new, classier chapter in the OF story.
