Idiot Glee‘s James Friley describes his 2011 album Paddywhack as a “rollercoaster of emotions” but he’s left that that up-and-down mentality behind on his new EP, Life Without Jazz. The first song, “Pinkwood,” reflects that state, as he channels a Tusk-era Fleetwood Mac vibe and looks ahead at the possibilities of new romance. “This song used to repeat ‘I finally got a lover’ instead of ‘I think I need a lover’,” Friley tells Hive. “I’d just re-united with an ex. We broke up and I realized I was tired of wishy-washy back and forth relationship crap and the song never sounded quite right anyway, so I changed the chorus. Other lines actually still work too strangely…dreaming of a woman used to mean dreaming of the woman I am with, now it means dreaming of the woman I want.” Ladies, start lining up.
Idiot Glee’s new EP, Life Without Jazz, is out February 26 on Hop Hop and on vinyl via Atelier Ciseaux / Bureaubureau. Stream “Pinkwood” below:
