Hive Five: Our Daily Listicle of Musical Musings
Whether holding down duties as one half of TNGHT with Hudson Mohawke or crafting some fine solo productions, the Montreal-based Lunice is a beatsmith on the up. Ahead of a promised rapper-based TNGHT EP and his own solo full-length project this year, here’s five slick and savvy remixes from the vault of Lunice that you need in your library.
1. Deerhunter, “Helicopter” (Lunice and Diplo Remix)
Back in 2010 Lunice proved he can hang with mainstream production darlings by holing up with Diplo to add a twerked twist to indie rocksters Deerhunter’s “Helicopter.”
2. G.O.O.D. Music, “Clique” (TNGHT Mix)
Lunice and Hudson Mohawke versus ‘Ye and Jay and Big Sean. A ritzy royal rap soundclash ensues.
3. Kid Cudi, “Day And Nite” (Lunice Remix)
On Lunice’s watch, Kid Cudi’s signature song receives a shuffling new electronic sheen.
Lunice has described his sound as “blockbuster instrumental rap” — this one just happens to have some warped vocals from Detroit oddball-about-town Danny Brown scattered about on top of his grooves.
5. XV, “Swervin” (Lunice Remix)
Stripping things down while swanking them up, Lunice’s take on XV’s “Swervin’” manages to conjure up a seductive twilight vibe. Swerve it out!
