If you listen to the new Iron and Wine song “Lovers’ Revolution” and think that you’re hearing some overt jazz inclinations, you’re not far off. The long-standing project for Sam Beam, who over the years has drifted from loner folk to more rootsy jams, has recruited modern jazz greats like Brian Blade, Steve Bernstein, Curtis Fowlkes, Kenny Wolleson, Rob Burger and Tony Scherr to help out on his new album Ghost on Ghost. And upon first listen of the horn-infused “Lovers’ Revolution,” it’s not that crazy an idea! We’re excited for this change, because honestly, he kinda lost us on 2011’s Kiss Each Other Clean.
Ghost on Ghost is out April 16 on Nonesuch.
