At first glance, Jim James‘ new video for “A New Life” appears to be just the My Morning Jacket frontman singing with his guitar in a darkly lit room. Which makes sense. He’s totally a guy that would play alone in a darkly lit room. But as the song unfolds and he’s expressing the desire for “a new life,” James walks out the door and into a desert, where he croons to a dancing woman in a pink dress wearing a buffalo head. He may have a new life, but with that comes new responsibilities, like figuring out what a buffalo-human hybrid eats.
