Joey Bada$$ and Chance the Rapper Team Up for “Wendy N Becky”

Brooklyn’s Beast Coast figurehead Joey Bada$$ is continuing to attack 2013 on the collaboration tip. Following his hook-up with boom-bap deity DJ Premier for “Unorthodox,” last night he dropped “Wendy N Becky,” a slinky track in tandem with Chicago’s Chance the Rapper. “We met on the Smokers’ Club tour stop this summer in Chicago,” Chance told Hive of the song’s genesis. “When I started making trips to NYC, we got to kick it and we started making music together.”

“Wendy N Becky” has the two MCs musing on their trails with the ladies over a low-slung backing cooked up by Chance’s fellow Chi-Town resident Thelonius Martin, whose previous work includes sessions with Action Bronson and Hodgy Beats. “It’s a very soulful, jazzy production with a John Coltrane sample,” Chance explained, while adding that the song is in the same style as tracks he’s recorded with Martin for his upcoming Acidrap mixtape. As for further collaborations with the Pro Era kid in the future, Chance teases, “That’s on Joey — I’m just super happy to be working with the Young Honorable Elijah Brohammad.”
