The O Music Awards are back! In the past the OMAs have celebrated the best in music, technology and counter culture with outrageous stunts like a world-record-breaking dance party and a road trip with the Flaming Lips. This time the OMAs are back with more categories, nominees and a 24-hour drum-a-thon featuring drummer for the Roots (and all-around cool gentleman) ?uestlove. Leading the awards nominees are Frank Ocean (Must Follow Artist on Twitter and Too Much Ass for TV) and Beck (Best Interactive Music Video and Analog Genius). Other noms include Pussy Riot (Digital Genius), Macklemore (Best Web-Born Artist), ?uestlove (Must Follow Artist on Twitter), Tyler the Creator (Best Artist Instagram) and David Bowie (Too Much Ass for TV). The best part? The fans (that means you) decide the winners. Head over to OMusicAwards.com to cast your vote — voting is open from now until Tuesday, May 21. Then head back to OMusicAwards.com on June 19 to catch the whole awards show.
And as Hive previously mentioned, the OMAs will also feature a “Make a Band Famous” award for the first time. Nominees for this category were chosen via MTV’s Artist Platform and by committee. Starting today you can vote for your favorite band from our list of 10 semi-finalists. On Friday, May 31, we’ll announce the five winners who will play the OMAs live on June 19. The band that receives the most votes at the end of the livestream will score a spot playing VMAs weekend in August, as well as a chance to become an MTV’s Artist to Watch, VH1’s You Oughta Know, or CMT’s Listen Up band.
Mark your calendars, and check back on Hive and O Music Awards for more announcements on bands, drummers and venues.
