Brooklyn rap upstart Joey Bada$$ dropped his second full-length solo mixtape, Summer Knights, at 1.47pm this afternoon. Clocking in at 17 tracks and available as a gratis download release, the project has the O.G. Swankster riding over beats by his Pro Era pals (Kirk Knight, Chuck Strangers) plus outside contributions from Lee Bannon, Oddisee, DJ Premier, Statik Selektah (on the previously-released piano-helmed “Word Is Bond”) and Alchemist, who offers up a brooding, static-laden beat for “Trap Dour.” Summer Knights also includes Bada$$’s touted collaboration with MF Doom, “Amethyst Rockstar,” although there are increasing rumors that the grand ruse-meister Doom had previously sold the beat to another rapper back in 2008.

Summer Knights concludes with a tribute track to Capital STEEZ, the Pro Era founder who took his own life on Christmas eve of last year. Titled #LongLiveSteelo, the song has Bada$$ calling STEEZ “the big bro I never ever had.” Pro Era fans hankering for STEEZ’s rumored post-humus project King Capital will have to keep waiting though, as Bada$$ recently took to Twitter to deny reports that it was going to drop as a free download on July 7th.
